Study at the Hanze University (scholarships, grants and fellowships)

The name ‘Hanze’ might sound a bit strange to you if you are not from the Netherlands. This name refers to the Hanseatic League, which was medieval trade alliance of cities in the Netherlands, Germany, Scandinavia and the Baltic Area. Just like in the medieval days, the city of Groningen and its university of applied sciences has a reputation of being internationally orientated.

Level of Education

The Hanze University in Groningen is an university of applied sciences, meaning that the offers profession-oriented study programmes. 
The programmes are competency based and practically oriented. With this approach the university ensures to prepare students directly for the labour market. 
The university of applied sciences offers both Bachelor degrees and Master degrees. The Bachelor programmes at the Hanze University of applied sciences are 4 year programmes.


The International Business School of the Hanze University offers several scholarships for international students. The scholarships described at the website are meant for both for students from the EU/ EEA and students from around the world. All non-EU/EEA student scan receive a scholarship of €3,500 or more when following a Bachelor Degree Programme. Fee-paying EU/EEA students can apply for a tuition fees credit, which is an interest-bearing loan from the Dutch government to cover the costs of the tuition fee. The loan will have to be repaid after graduation.

International Students

In the academic year of 2010-2011, the Hanze University of applied sciences had approximately 25,000 students of which 1,655 students were from abroad. Of these students 376 persons were exchange students.

    The worst place to study for an international student. If you wish to continue master’s in a research university in the Netherlands, its simply not possible, as universities do not offer pre master programmes in english. and after graduating from this nonsence where you waste your 4 years, you do need to do a pre master. don’t study here.

    I have a first degree in bachelor of science mathematics and economics and want to enrol in the master either in mathematics or economic but I couldn’t find any information on that programme. I am from Ghana, West Africa
