Technical University Delft

Study at the Technical University of Delft (scholarships, grants and fellowships)

The Technical University in Delft (TU Delft) was founded in 1842 by King Willem II. Back in the day it was called the ‘Royal Academy for the education of civilian engineers, for serving both nation and industry, and of apprentices for trade’. Quite a mouthful. Only 20 years later it was decided by law that the academy had to make place for a ‘Polytechnic School’ where architects and engineers were being educated. This went on for about 40 years until the name and purpose of the school changed again in 1905. It became an ‘Institute of Technology’ and an official act acknowledged the academic level of the school . In 1986 the school became a real university: the Delft University of Technology, which made the academic level visible to all inhabitants of the Netherlands. Nowadays, the university still has the same name and a reputation for its high quality education on technical subjects.

Level of education

The TU Delft offers education on research university level. Its high quality academic education is focused on research. However, everything you learn during your lectures will be applied in projects where you will work in a team. In short, you will receive high quality education at research university level and will be able to apply the knowledge during projects. When you’ve finished the programme you will be awarded a BSc or MSc degree.

International student programs

The university of Delft offers an introduction week for new students during the last week of August. Here you will have the opportunity to get to know your fellow students and the city of Delft. You will start with a meet and greet and the Schiphol airport. This way you will not have to find the way to the city yourself, but you will get some help. Furthermore, during this week you will get help with insurances, registrations and bank accounts. But the most important thing of the week is getting to know the university, the city and the social life. This assures you that you will have a great start of your stay abroad.
