my name is dora and I’m from Greece. I’m thinking of having my master at the Netherlands but everybody thinks that this should be one of my worst mistakes due to the difficulty of the language. Although I know that lessons are taught in english, however, people here believe that my daily life will be harsh!!! Is that right? Do not people there ecxersise their english when they meet foreingers?
Adittionally, my friend, who had done a brief search one year ago, told me that there are many accomodation problems at the netherlands. He told me that it is harder finding a house to live, thn getting accepted. Is it late to send my papers,if I want to start at the 2nd semester?
Please answer my questions…
I have met several Greeks who studied in the Netherlands. They all did they master English and they had a great time. Most of the Dutch population speaks English and German, next to Dutch. So it should be no problem for you to study here.
I can recommend the master program in Groningen (see http://www.rug.nl), as Groningen has just been elected the most fun and best studentcity in the Netherlands and has a lot of international students!
Accommodation can be hard to find (and it will not be cheap) but is not impossible. The universities often have special arrangements with housing agencies to accommodate especially foreign students.
So please, do not let the language barrier stop you. Talk to some people who have actually been to the Netherlands OR to some Dutch people visiting your town (tourists) and see if they can convince you about with their English 😉
